While this project places its focus of research on African Area Studies, its counterparts for international joint research include organizations related to Area Studeies not only in Africa but also in Germany, Scotland, and France. For this reason, Prof. Shigeki Kaji, the current director of CAAS, who has a wide view based on area studies and linguistic perspectives, will take the position of the principal researcher to supervise the entire program. For co-researchers, Prof. Jun Ikeno (specialized in African area studies and economics), Deputy director of CAAS, Prof. Daiji Kimura (specialized in African area studies and ecological anthropplogy) at ASAFAS, and Assistant Professor Akira Takada (specialized in African area studies and cultural anthropology) at CAAS will be assigned as an expert in East Africa, West Africa, and Southern Africa respectively. The principal researcher will supervise the entire program. The co-researchers will carry out negotiations and adjustments concerning the dispatch of young researchers in their own specialized areas and fields with host researchers at the affiliated institutions. In addition, co-researchers will also be in charge of conducting negotiations and other necessary procedures regarding the swift conclusion of agreements with the affiliated institutions with which an official academic cooperation agreement has not yet been signed. As soon as this project has been launched, a project office (planned to be set within the Kyoto Technoscience Center) will be established and one research support assistant will be employed to assist the project operation as well as the researchers to be dispatched and invited research fellows.
